Should I bathe my Baby Everyday?

To bathe or not to bathe

New parents often ask if they should be bathing their baby every day. This is a question that doesn't have a definitive answer as every baby´s skin is individual and unique, just as your skin is unique to you. There are, however, some guiding principles when it comes to baby skin care.

Generally, newborns do not require daily bathing as their ability to get themselves dirty is limited by their lack of mobility. Additionally babies have very sensitive skin, and bathing can dry out a baby´s skin very quickly. This is especially true if the water is warm to hot. If your baby has dry skin, we recommend that you bathe your baby every other day or three times a week. Instead, clean your baby´s face regularly, change diapers quickly and clean the genital areas thoroughly after changing diapers.

How to bather your baby properly

When you do bathe your baby, keep it brief. 3 to 5 minutes should be plenty of time to thoroughly clean your baby. Prolonged bathing can quickly dry out your baby´s skin, even if your baby does not have particularly dry skin. Remember to apply a gentle lotion or moisturizer immediately after the bath while your baby´s skin is still wet. Finally, when drying, do not rub the baby with a towel. Rubbing too vigorously can easily irritate the baby´s sensitive skin. Instead, gently pat the baby´s skin dry.
